Bamboo Being able to offer high performing fabrics that help the environment is a main preoccupation here at Gondwana. We need to protect our earth while still providing extreme protection and performance. That’s why Bamboo is one of our favourites. An eco-friendly crop, easily grown and with no need for pesticides, it offers brilliant next-to-skin comfort and a host of natural performance properties to keep you comfortable and ready to take on your next adventure.
The process.
Grow Bamboo is a hardy and quick-growing plant. It is naturally antibacterial, so can be grown without the use of pesticides or herbicides. It is also able to be grown with little water, and able to be replanted quickly after harvesting.
Harvest Once grown, the bamboo stalks are harvested, then heavily pulped. The pulped bamboo then separates into thin fibre threads, similar to cotton.
Treat Once pulped, the bamboo fibre threads are treated and spun, ready to be woven into cloth. Bamboo fibre threads are naturally smooth and round with no sharp spurs to irritate skin. This makes bamboo an ideal choice for wearers with sensitive or allergy-prone skin.
Weave The soft bamboo threads are woven, creating bamboo yarn. When creating garments bamboo is often combined with other yarns, like cotton, so the best performance features of both can be utilized. Bamboo is naturally antibacterial, extremely durable, super soft and highly wicking, quickly drawing moisture away from the skin.
Bamboo Gondwana’s stable of bamboo product encompasses lightweight shirting and tees for summer as well as the Bamboo Softshell inner layer, which provides wicking where you need it most. As a naturally antibacterial, highly wicking and extremely comfortable fabric bamboo is best as a next-to-skin product.
